2022 Team Tennis

Team Tennis is an AACTA sponsored, recreational summer tennis league for AACTA members at least 14 years of age.

Each team consists of men and women of all levels of play. Head-to-head competition between two teams, defined as a “match”, will consist of 3-5 courts of doubles play. Each week, opposing captains will negotiate a line-up that aims to have competitive courts of play, regardless of the gender of the players.

Prior to each match, each team captain will supply to his/her opponent a written list of players and positions. These lists can be negotiated between the two team captains in the interest of creating even and competitive match-ups on all five courts. Players may not play in more than one position within a single match.

A common pool of substitute players will be established and made available to all team captains. Captains may only go to the common pool when they are unable to field a team of ten players for a match.

To ensure adequate play by all who have signed up to participate in the league, every member of a team must play in at least two of their teams events in a season unless they contact the team captain and resign. If a player never shows up for any matches, this is considered resigning.

Each court will play two sets with standard scoring. If the teams split sets, a match tiebreak (first to 10 by 2) will be used to decide the match in lieu of a full third set. One point will be awarded for each court won. A team wins the event by winning the greater number of courts. Winning captains will submit the results of the event to within 24 hours.

If the match is being played at a location without lights, the captains must agree to timed match procedures prior to the start of play. Since the amount of daylight will vary throughout the season, we are relying on captains to work cooperatively to determine when play should cease. The winner will be determined by the total number of games won. In the event that the teams are tied, each team will receive 0.5 point.

Match play begins Monday, (Date TBD) and runs 6 weeks.  All matches are scheduled on Monday evenings and will begin at 6:30 PM.

In the event of inclement weather, matches will be rescheduled for Thursday of the same week if play has NOT been started. The line-up for each team may be altered based on availability if the match is rescheduled for Thursday evening.  If it rains on Thursday, that week’s matches will not be played.

If a match is interrupted because of rain, Play will resume from the point at which is stopped. The date for the continuation of the match will be determined by the players involved. The match must be completed within ten days.

Balls, which are supplied by AACTA, are provided by the home team.

Prizes are awarded to the winning team at the end of the season.
