About the AACTA Ladder

Our tennis ladders, created in the year of AACTA’s founding in 1967, have grown steadily as one of our most popular competitive programs. Prizes are awarded at the end-of-the-year party in December to players who have achieved the top position in each category.

AACTA members in good standing are eligible to challenge on to the ladders, subject to the rules set forth below, which are the responsibility of every ladder player to understand, refer to, and abide by.

An incidental purpose of the ladders is to provide guidance, among other data as available, for tournament chairmen in making seedings and league team captains in determining relative strengths of team members.

The ladder season for challenge matches runs from April 1 to October 31 with standings at the end of the season carried over to the beginning of the next for the singles ladders.  All doubles ladders (based on individual point accumulation) are reset to 0.

How to Log Into the Ladder and Set Up Your Account

Current AACTA Members get to use the ladder for FREE! To set up your account, complete the online form.

If you’ve already played an AACTA ladder match in 2015, then your account has already been set up (and all scores transferred to the new ladder) – do not set up a new account or you’ll have two separate accounts.

How to Initiate Challenges & Report Scores

After logging into your account in tennis rungs, you’ll be directed to your ‘Player Dashboard.’  Under “My Ladders,” you can initiate a challenge through the “Issue Challenge” button – this automatically emails your opponents with your challenge.

Once the match has been played, you’ll log back into your AACTA Ladder account and report your scores through the “report score” button next to your challenge.  If your opponents aren’t listed in the tennis rungs ladder, ask them to visit the AACTA website to join the ladder.

Ladder Rules - Doubles Ladders

Since we have a lot of players on our ladder with different partners, we’re using a ‘points-based ladder,’ so ladder results are shown based on individual players and not doubles teams.

In our ‘individual’ doubles ladders, it’s not about playing with one particular partner, it’s about just playing doubles with different people against different people.  Two people propose a match and 2 others accept!

  • Each match participant will receive a 1/2 point.
  • The match winner will receive 5 points.
  • Each set won will earn each player 1 point.
  • Going three sets will earn each player 2 points.
  • Winning in straight sets will earn a player 3 points.
  • You may only issue one challenge at a time on any given ladder.
  • By accepting a challenge, you agree to play the challenge within 8 days after the date of acceptance.
  • If a challenge is accepted and not played within 8 days, it will expire and the challenge will be deleted from the system and will have to be re-issued. Of course, since rankings continually change, a re-challenge may not be possible.
  • One challenge match win cannot be recorded on multiple ladders.
Ladder Rules - Singles Ladders

These are traditional bump ladders.

  • Players can challenge down.
  • A player must wait 7 days before re-challenging the same player.
  • You may issue up to 3 challenges at a time being mindful that you must have the availability to play same.
  • If the challenge is successful, you will take the spot of the person you challenge and your opponent will be bumped down 1 spot.
  • When in Tennis Rungs at your dashboard page, please view the rules for whichever ladder you plan to join as some of the details vary slightly depending on the size of the ladder (for instance how far up you can challenge).

Quarterly Ladder Awards
  1. The players with the most matches won and matches played on each ladder will receive a quarterly $25 gift certificate to Holabird which can be used in-store or online. Note: Must play 4 different player matches to qualify. The quarters are defined as Feb-April, May-July, Aug-Oct and Nov-Jan.
  2. Players must play at least 4 different players on the ladder in the quarter.
  3. A player can only qualify for one gift certificate per quarter.
  4. If more than one player is tied for a category, then the player with the highest rank on the ladder will win the gift certificate.
  5. The top 2 players (most points) on the doubles ladder will receive a $25 gift certificate.
Annual Ladder Awards (April Through October)
  1. The #1 player must play a minimum of five matches against four different opponents to be eligible for an award.
  2. To qualify for the best win/loss record (percentage), the player or team must have played at least ten matches, two of which have been “up” challenges, and have a winning record (i.e., more wins than losses).
  3. To qualify for the most matches played, a player/team must have played at least 10 matches against 5 different opponents.
  4. In the event that no player or team qualifies, no trophy will be given. An exception may be made in the case of a former #1 player or team who has not had sufficient opportunity to challenge up.
